Well Hello there!
Not sure if you will receive this
before you head out into the wilderness, but if you do, "Good Luck!
Don't die out there! Have fun!"
But really, it sounds like it is
going to be a lot of fun! I can't wait to hear how it goes.
Ok. Regarding my BYU vs BYU-I
decision, I have decided to go to BYU Provo. I am going to try to think
about classes this week. I'm actually going to begin investigating this
today after I finish a quickish email. Can you find out for me which
classes from BYU-I transfer? That way I will know which generals I still have
to take. Thanks.
Wow! That sounds like it was a
fun phone call! [Re: a call we received from the Ward Mission Leader in the ward Ben is serving in] He gave me a cool compliment which was meant for
Dad. I promised I would deliver it for him. Hno Esquivel told me
that Dad has really good Spanish. He told me that I will have to practice
with my dad after the mission in order to keep up my Spanish like my dad has
done. So there you have it. Even after 30 years, Dad still has
awesome Spanish! Impressive!
Elder A and I are doing
awesome! We are having a lot of fun together. This past week we made
a game which is going to help us improve our contacting skills. It's lots
of fun. We have the rules for it written on the white board at
home. It is fun because pandulce is always on the line. Elder
I. and I played a game similar to this back in Arroyo. Come to think
of it, the only thing similar was that pandulce was on the line. But the
purpose of that game was to eliminate certain words from our vocabulary so we
could rise more fully to the sacredness of our call. It worked! But
by the end of the game we were sick of pandulce. I am hoping that we
don't have to get sick of pandulce this time around before we achieve the
purpose of the game. I am super grateful for Elder A. We are
always having fun, laughing, and joking as we walk around these streets of LA.
We are having some pretty cool things
happening with the members we are working with here. My current favorite
developing story comes from that family I talked about several weeks ago that
wants to invite all of their friends to their son's baptism. They are
amazing! They have been talking with ALL their friends and have even made
some fancy invitations to make the invitations more official. They are
also talking up to their friends the fact that there will be missionaries there
on the scene to offer free tours of the chapel if they desire to take advantage
of the opportunity. According to them, the friends that have committed to
come are pretty excited to come and support. Maybe part of the reason
everyone is so excited is because around here, the community's understanding of
baptism is as follows: a baptismal service in the Catholic church followed by a
MASSIVE after party at the house of whoever got baptized (I know this because I
have been invited to eat at some of these parties as we pass by on the
street). The party always has more people in attendance than the actual baptism. But anyways, that is just an interesting thought. The
point is that there will be food at the end of the baptism service so that all
the non-members, members, and missionaries will be able to mingle and get to
know each other. The baptism is this weekend.
Ok. That's all I got for
now. It's time to get on the BYU website and start figuring out what
classes i will be taking when that time rolls around.
Love You!
Elder Ostler
